Two Years in the Making
WoW - Stands for Will O'Wisp, the quilt pattern from Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin book.
This is my second one. It really is a log cabin quilt but with 60 instead of 90 degree angles.

Piecing

Apr 13, 2017: Met with Crystal this morning to get an idea of what she might like. It will be fun to see where we end up. The WoW from 2011 wowed her instantly. I pulled the greens and purples from my batiks collection & will plug them into the EQ7 rendition to see how it looks & what it might need. Also have other fabrics on hand that might do. Not getting anywhere...
Apr 18: Went to Greensboro. Picked up 7.5 yds of purple & green batiks with Joanne's help.
Apr 24: Met with Crystal & showed her several options for using the fabrics. She still wants Will O' Wisp & loves the brighter colors.
Apr 05, 2018: After a year's delay, I am finally taking the time to work on this quilt. I prepped the fabrics for cutting and then spent time re-familiarizing myself with the details of how to layout the fabrics. Also made a cutting chart to help keep things straight. Ready to start cutting tomorrow.
Apr 06: The strips that make up the main part of the quilt are cut.
Apr 07: Chimneys (dark blue) are cut. Logs from 7 of the 8 fabrics are cut.
Apr 08: All pieces are cut ready to sew.
Apr 15: Made A blocks which comprise the center star.
Apr 17: Working on B blocks. Everytime I start to sew for the last 2 days, I get interrupted.
Apr 18: Thought I finished B blocks only to discover I had pieced mirror images of what I intended. These just happen to be Br blocks. I need two more Br blocks. I can make the correct 6 B blocks from the Br logs. If one is going to make a major mistake on this quilt, this is the one to make. B & Br blocks are done.
May 26: Been working on the 22 D blocks as I have a few minutes. Done now.
Aug 13-15: Have a bit of time so working on C blocks.
Dec 16: Continuing the work on C Block.
Dec 18: C Blocks are done. 6 wedges & 4 corner sections are done.
Dec 27: The center is in one piece. Only border are left to do.
Dec 28: Borders are on & thus the quilt top is finished.

Longarming & Binding

Dec 29: Saw Crystal today. She selected Zephyr for her pattern. Posted overlay.
Jun 21, 2019: Prepping and loading. After 2 years, it's about time to finish this up.
Jun 22: Loaded. Got sick all of a sudden.
Jun 23: Quilting. Love the pattern Crystal picked on this quilt. Forgot to take picture on first row (Still feeling queasy.)
Jun 24: Quilted. Squared in preparation for the binding
Jul 03: Cut binding strips - first task after 2019 Work Area Upgrade
Jul 09: Made the binding.
Jul 21: Attached the binding and started the handwork. Got about 1/2 way.
Jul 29: Finished the binding & thus the quilt.
Jul 30: Pressed & packaged the quilt. Figured I'd better call before heading out to deliver this. Darn, she's not working today. Tomorrow I'll enjoy breakfast when I deliver this.
Jul 31: Hand delivered. I rarely go for breakfast but it was excellent.

Sep 12: Got back a bear! Adorable. Ordered more backing/binding fabric for good measure. I will be hand binding this one.
Sep 17: Fabric is here.
Sep 23: Pre-washed the backing.
Sep 24: Binding & backing are ready. Loaded the quilt. Ready to longarm.
Oct 03: Quilted. Still need to bind. Missed the deadline for this year's drive.
Nov 23: Finished the binding.

Jul 25: Wow! Already have some of the red & white fabric back from RWB fabrics for Joan's Vietnam Vets Project I shipped to Joan on the 15th.
Jul 30: Prepping. The recipient will be visiting Joan in August. As she says, it is not very often that she gets to deliver one of her RWB quilts in person ... if I can get it back to her quickly. Considering Joan has sent me too many quilts to count (over 4 blog pages @ 20 posts per page), I think I can mange it...this time. LOL
Jul 31: Started prepping...batting, thread, backing, programming.
Aug 01: Loaded ready to quilt. Quilting...
Aug 04: Quilted. Easy & quick. No problems. Just lots of unforeseen circumstances in life. Glory, glory, it will ship tomorrow. Per Joan's request, and it really is, a J&L Quilt.

Celebrating MY Independence Too

Things are changing. More than ever, it is all about the quilts, not profit.

I no longer need to quilt to survive.
I am keeping my business active so we all get batting at wholesale.
I will be selective about the quilts I choose to do.
I want to spend more time making my own quilts start to finish.
And I hope to do a lot of custom quilts which is the same thing really.
These will have as much priority as partner quilts.
If you are a NC partner, there will be a change in your quotes.
I hope to be in Greensboro more often.
To help with gas, pick-up & drop-off will be $5.00 per round-trip.
If you come to the cabin to help longarm your quilt,
the cost drops to half or below...real partners & a fun day!

PS: Anyone who has sent more than 70 quilts always gets top priority even over mine.
If your quilt is time sensitive, be sure to let me know.
