Jun 28: While enjoying having my daughter, Joanne all to myself last Friday afternoon, Terry came in with this beautiful, nicely done hand pieced Flying Geese heirloom quilt. Joanne picked out fabric for the backing & binding. I brought it home to pre-wash & piece the backing & to longarm it using Deb's Swirls. I'll finish it with my usual hand binding.
Jul 01: Finally got some pictures & measurements & started this post.
Sep 15: Cut the binding. Pre-washed the backing. Prepped the top as best I could.
Sep 16: Seamed the backing. Loaded.
Sep 18: Quilting. Taking it slow so I can give it my full attention.
​Sep 21: Quilted. This is such a beautiful quilt but not longarm friendly.. We made it though. I decided to leave the hand piecing & its nuances as they were and only "fix" a few places so I could quilt it. Binding next.
Sep 24: Just learned Terry has been following along (didn't get my emails). He would like his quilt in mid October & wants to pick it up in person. as they love to drive up to Boone. Kool. Can do. Terry, you will get to experience the changes on the construction project. Need to change my directions from turning right at the light 421/221 to follow direction to N 221. Good luck finding the road sign for West Pine Swamp because construction is a mess here. When you see a sign indicating a road to the right (West Pine Swamp) followed quickly by a road to the left (Cranberry Springs), take the one to the right. I'll fix the directions when I get a chance & post on the Contact page.

Jun 26: In preparation for my trip to Greensboro for backing fabrics and a 2nd worktable, I mentally devised a new workspace layout that began when I needed to accommodate my TheraCycle.
Jun 27: Off to Greensboro to get the 2nd table (gross--bubble gum stuck to the bottom, spider webs, dust and all.)
Jun 29: Home w/enough fabric to make up for all those trips I didn't make the last two years. A dangerous place, that Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shop. Unloaded the car except for the heavy table.
Jun 30: Trying to get things organized...
July 01: Still trying to get things organized. Got the table moved in. Got the projects bagged up nicely.
July 02: Replacing the well worn ironing board cover. Got  the electrical cords organized.
Jul 03: Finished last night. Only blogging today. In my opinion, this is quite functional & not cluttered. Satisfied for now. With the chaos tamed, I hope I can sleep longer tonight.

Feb 09, 2018: The only thing I have to go on is "yellow". Stopped by the quilt shop on the way home from talking to Mish at Geeks at Work & reserved these fabrics.Over the weekend, I posted lots of renditions.
Feb 12: Since no requested feedback, I made an executive decision to make this quilt. I like that there are two contrasting Quatrefoil designs--the blue & the yellow. Bought the fabric.
Feb 14: Busy working on another project that is on hold until Friday so I am cutting strips. All cut except the yellow.
Feb 15: Everything except backing is cut & ready to sew.
Feb 16: Sewed the strip sets & cut into pieces for making the 4-patches.
​Feb 17: Started on the 4-patches.
Feb 18: Finished the 4-patches. Started on the blue leaves of the quatrefoil attaching the yellow squares to the corners on one side.
Feb 19: Finished making the quatrefoil leaves. Just a matter joining the top 3, middle 3 & bottom 3 blocks into the larger 12" quatrefoil blocks. The middle ones with the large colorful squares are done.

Feb 21: Top & bottom rows are done. Connecting top & middle rows.
​Feb 22: The blocks are done. Next connecting them into rows.
Feb 27: Been working but slowly. Finished putting the rows together. Whew!
Feb 28: The quilt center is done. Pressing and borders tomorrow.
​Mar 01: Working on borders. Finished 2 of 3.
Mar 04: Third border is on which will mean this baby is pieced.
May 03: Somewhere along the line I made the binding. Piecing the backing.
Aug 30: Took my quilt to Sew Original to show Patti who helped me select the fabrics way back when. I had purple fabric intended for this quilt but it never quite felt right. I decided to replace it with Grunge Sky Blue, a perfect match to the blue used throughout the top. And it will show the quilting. Since Mish is into robotics, I choose Steam Punk Gears for his panto and will quilt it as loose as I can. Thinking Light Yellow thread. May try for blue in the bobbins.
Sep 13: Mish likes the gears (over the Spokes I also have).
May 28, 2019: Prepped. Loaded ready to quilt.
May 29: Quilting. Quilted.
​May 30: Squared the quilt. Attached the binding.

May 05, 2019: A special couple has just commissioned this fun little quilt. This is an enlarged version of the original made in 2015. Someone is living right because to be able to find the same fabrics 4 years later is rare ... and I know who they are! (When I first learned they were in the market for a quilt, I sold them on Joan's beautiful Gold Quilt, my heart throb since I did the binding on it back 2016. They still wanted one made by me so this will be it.
​May 06: Ordered fabric from Nuts and Bolts Fabric & AceHardwareMerc. I must say the ladies behind these shops have the best customer service I have experienced. Thank you Earleen & Jenn.
​May 09: Fabrics are here. At the end of an aggravating day of longarming, I decided to go ahead and cut the charm pack in pieces for making the braids.
​May 11: Planning the braids.
​May 12: Sewing the braids. This is so much fun & fast. No fussy points yet looks tedious. Didn't start sewing until after 8 PM and got halfway in an hour.
​May 15: Finished the braids. Cut the sashing and borders.
May 27: Trimmed the braids. Added the sashing.
May 28: Added borders. Quilt top is pieced. Backing is ready.
May 30: Programmed. Loaded. Quilted.

Marilyn brought me fresh veggies from their garden. This layer cake will become Marilyn's quilt. Just have to figure out what to make.

Apr 17: Backing is here. As soon as I can get it washed, I will load it.
Apr 18: Backing is ready to load. Started loading.
Apr 20: Loaded. Quilting. Got the top borders done.
Apr 22: Continued quilting. Got 2 rows of blocks done & setup for the 3rd row.
​Apr 23: Two thirds done.
Apr 24: Blocks are done. Tomorrow will finish up with bottom borders & start on the binding.
Apr 25: Quilting is done. On to the binding. Quilt is squared. Binding is attached and clipped ready for hand work.

My Aunt Jean is 85 years old and has so many projects started. We have "pulled out" 3 completed tops just this morning, not including the star. She does Japanese embroidery and I'll attach a few samples from her collection. So glad you can machine quilt for her. I'm glad too.

In addition to his Nautical Flags quilt, Narci wants a wall hanging of his medical shield for his office. Thinking embroidered fleur de lis & lettering with gold fabric for the border, backing & binding.

​Jan 28, 2019: Using the shield in the quilt to sketch the shield for the wall hanging.
Jan 29: Did a mock-up to figure out how I want to do this. I think mounting or framing it will be better than quilting it. Did the hard part--shield in the center. Planned everything else.
​Jan 30: Doing the wall hanging for real.
Jan 31: Narci wants this behind glass. I talked to a framing company in Boone. I was advised to complete this as a quilt with binding. They will sew it to mat & make a box frame. They cannot put glass next to the fabric because it will mildew. They will use a glass that appears to not even be there. A bit pricey but worth it. BTW, this wall hanging has always been my gift to a friend. I'm excited about it.
Feb 01: Hmm. Binding has been ready. - don't remember making it.

Feb 05: We have a quilting plan.

Feb 13: Visited Tom of Ashe Custom Framing & Gallery. Tom, a patient and dedicated artist, hung in there as we hashed through many ideas. Suggestions: use metallic braid rather than the gold fabric, remove the small gold border so the white & blue touch. Best of all, I did NOT have to quilt this to frame it so we are in fact going back to my original vision. I am remaking the whole wall hanging which will look awesome in a frame Tom has selected. YES! YES! YES! 
Feb 14: Hobby Lobby has the additional blue fabric I need. Two stores in Boone carry some gold braid that I think will work & match the fleur de lis patches. Off I go. Found several.
Feb 15: Re-made the wall hanging minus the gold border. Spent several hours with Tom of Ashe Custom Framing & Gallery. Could not have done this without him. Picked a trim. Puzzled over how to attach it.
Feb 16: Several more hours with Tom attaching the patches and braid. Tom had constructed a box with a blade to cut his 1/2" double sided tape down to width we needed & a template for perfectly positioning the fleurs-de-lis & for cutting my blue shield. Selecting a frame was the hardest part. The one we thought would work didn't go with the gold decorations. After trying nearly every frame in the shop, I was ready to give up in despair. I spotted a couple of thin brass frames while Tom was leaning toward a simple black one. We decided that not knowing the office decor, Narci would have to choose.
​Feb 17: The frame is ordered.

Nov 20, 2018: My friend, Narciso Gomez, is here from Florida for the family's annual Thanksgiving hiatus from all things medical. The whole Gomez family is rather fond of my quilts: the whole collection. Narci designed his ideal quilt last night using nautical flags to spell out family initials & the family shield. Also will be making a Medical Shield Wall Hanging for his office​.
​Nov 21: Spent the day drawing Narci's ideas..
​Nov 22: Narci stopped in long enough to choose his favorite. Later I joined the family & friends for Thanksgiving dinner. I polished off the design & I have located fabrics I think will work. Just need Narci's final OK. Got it!

​Jan 3, 2019: Pre-washed all fabrics & all the white for 4 quilts.
Jan 05: Started cutting.
Jan 06: Finishing the cutting. Ready to start sewing.
Jan 08: Working on the flag blocks first.
​Jan 08: 18 of 20 flag blocks are together. Need squaring.
Jan 09: Corrected some mistakes on yesterday's blocks while squaring. Center blocks are ready. Tomorrow will connect the blocks in the horizontal block rows with the sashing in between & start on the center.
Jan 10-17: Been sick this week.Back to quilting soon.
Jan 18: Working on center block.
​Jan 21: Center block is done & the last flag blocks are done.
Jan 22: Blocks are connected into border rows & columns
Jan 23: Block borders are on. Only gold, white & blue borders left.
Jan 26: Only final blue border is left.
​Jan 27: Quilt top is finished.
