On Saturday, Nov 9th, my dear friend & head of a most special family passed away.
Duane was the neighborhood grader
who kept our roads & driveways cleared in winter & maintained all year.
Duane was a classic mountaineer, hard worker, solid in faith, family man, faithful friend.
I met Duane on July 24, 2003, the day grading began on my lot.
Wish I had met him a few weeks earlier before I was under contract.
Within a year of longarming I started making quilts for this family.
I say this to say above all how special this entire family is to me.
Trivette Family Quilts
Duane (2), Duane's wife Marie (2),
Duane & Marie's son Tony, Tony's wife Lori, Tony's son TJ,
Duane & Marie's son Charles, Charles' son Caleb,
Charles' wife (then) Myra, Myra's daughter Vanessa, Myra's dad.
Still not through--Duane & Marie's daughter Denise & some grand-kids need quilts.
oh, plus a few commissioned quilts Marie gave friends
I drove to Greensboro to see a dear friend, Munirah, to work with her granddaughters planning quilts they would like. And to get one of her awesome haircuts. NO ONE else has cut my hair the way I like it, the way I feel like me, for nearly 20 years.
The moment I entered her home at 2 PM, I was greeted by, not just Munirah, but her sister, Samira too. It was as if I had entered a whole new world. Awesome home. Aura of peace. Compatible sisters sharing a home. Before the girls arrived, Munirah brought out her 2013 Red & White Twister Quilt. Next thing I knew Samira was brainstorming for a quilt for her bed.
We planned quilts in that whirlwind of activity & excitement from 2-6 PM. Samira ordered pizzas. We concluded our day in fellowship around the table. I had a quiet 2 hour drive home then sat down to capture the details in writing. FIve hours later, I could rest.
Two Years in the Making
WoW - Stands for Will O'Wisp, the quilt pattern from Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin book.
This is my second one. It really is a log cabin quilt but with 60 instead of 90 degree angles.
