Bryn hand dyed these fabric last summer. Mar 20: First Contact & pictures.
Mar 24: My goof caused Bryn's contact form with her specs to not get delivered but I can always retrieve the info once I know to do so. We will use Silver thread to blend in almost to invisible. We got on the phone together and Bryn selected Connected Circles ... Mar 25: Will stitched medium density/10" high pattern. We are all set when the time comes. I love that! Mar 29: The quilt is here. Callie lives in nearby Jefferson. She didn't help with this one but will help with her Chevron quilt. Mar 27: Committed to the project.
Mar 31: Callie dropped by with her quilts. The backing is plain white. Apr 16: Prepping. Using Chantilly Lace & Natural White thread. Apr 17: Programming. Posted comps & overlays for 8.5, 10 & 11" rows. Callie chose 10". Finished loading. Quilting. Apr 18: Quilted. I was expecting Callie & her mom so I worked to get this done. Had it on the bed all afternoon to show it off when they came but that didn't happen. Apr 18: Expecting Callie again today to pick up this quilt & to decide how to handle Chevron. Callie lives in nearby Jefferson & may be able to share in the longarming process. (nope!) First contact was by phone some time ago. Mar 27: Committed to the project. Soon she will drop by with her quilts to select her pattern and thread.
Mar 31: Callie dropped by with her quilts. Thinking of using Flames panto. I haven't used this one before but it was a very nice nesting design. I like it! Silver thread. The backing is plain white. Apr 15: Callie & I will do this quilt together starting Friday and continuing through the weekend as needed. She very much wants to be a part of the entire operation. Apr 18: Started preparation process. Press the back & discovered it was too wide for the longarm and far wider than needed for the quilt. Got it folded for squaring when it became clear Callie wasn't coming as planned. I was exhausted so I stopped & went to dinner with some friends. Apr 19: Going to square/trim the backing about 6". Expecting Callie to come by to pick up her Hourglass quilt. We will decide how and when to proceed with this one so she can be as much a part of it as possible. Working all over several counties during the week doesn't make it easy for her. And it is Easter! May 09: Callie has realized she does not have time to do this with me so I will do it alone. May 22: Preparing the quilt top and backing for loading. May 23: Quilting - half way. Oops. Forgot the pics. May 24: Quilting. Quilted. OKAY, now Joan is just showing off! (Best pictures below) Mar 26: It's here - in Fleetwood; at the cabin when the snow melts. Well, it melted on the driveway so it is also at the cabin. This is better than a mobile. Makes me think of Noah at the circus under the big top. I love it. Too bad it has been so many years since I was that little boy I once was.
Mar 27: Finally got a pic of the whole quilt. Apr 03: Loaded & ready to quilt. Apr 04: Quilted. Mar 19: While riding along today, Marie told me she wants another quilt in May for a friend who loves black & white cows. Just getting ready for when she can come by and help design this quilt. For now, I am stuck on patterns like Just Can't Cut It or Take 5 for a patchwork look. I even kinda like the blue Holy Cow fabrics. It will be fun to see what Marie likes & where we end up. Fabrics Making the QuiltMar 24: Marie came by and we designed her quilt. I was up until past midnight getting everything ordered. Turns out in May means for Mother's Day. This Just Can't Cut It quilt using panels & large 15" to 16" blocks will piece quickly. The Farm Chic fabrics have both light and dark images online but I think either will work. Since Windham makes both lines of fabric--Holy Cow & Farm Chic--I hope they will coordinate nicely.
Mar 27: Four of the eight fabrics are here & they feel so wonderful, especially dairy farm scene. And the two fabrics lines will coordinate just fine. Mar 28: 6 panels and Cow Toss on Blue came in. One more to go. Mar 29: Last fabric is here. Decided to pre-wash everything--something I rarely do. Mostly I was killing time waiting for a friend to come over. Got everything pressed and ready to cut. Mar 30: Took most of the day cutting this out just so. Waiting on Marie to come by, I pieced the blocks. We looked for patterns when I came across one I forgot I had by Donna Kleinke. Why not use The Cow Jumped Over the Moon? Mar 31: Quilt top finished. Apr 07: Loaded. Apr 08: Quilted. Apr 14: Squared the quilt. Made the binding. Apr 15: Binding is attached. Starting hand work. Apr 26: Binding is finished. |
