This table topper quilt looks like pure fun. Sep 09: The quilt is here. Laura has been considering patterns for some time & now alas she must decide.
Sep 10: Added a picture, the pattern & thread selection. Sep 11: Quilt rendition, pattern overlays. Sep 13: Loaded. Re-addressed thread choices. Solid top thread prevents show-through on back Sep 16: Quilting. Quilted. Sep 17: Final pictures as best I can do on such a dull day.

Pieced by Laura Mourning Nov 04: Laura shared this image of a quilt she is making.
Nov 23: The quilt top is here. Will photograph when I start working on it. Nov 28: IQ layout done. Nov 29: Finally took some pictures of the quilt as I received it. Dec 01: (Still) Trying to decide on thread. White. Laura chose Deb's Swirls. Dec 07: While preparing to load, I found flaws in the backing. Laura is sending replacement backing. Dec 10: The backing is here. Dec 14: Quilting. Quilted. Boxed. Shipped. !! PREVIEW !! .vs Quilted Pieced by Laura Mourning So adorable! Nov 03: Laura shared this photo of a quilt she is making for her granddaughter. Nov 23: The quilt top is here. Will photograph when I start working on it. Nov 28: Just posted my proposed plan. If this quilt were not so small and cute ... but it is small and cute... I am going all out. Plus I think this plan looks nice. Since it is for a prissy 4 year old we are going with Butterflies and Stars. The crosshatch in the windows is to keep that part of the play quilt nice and flat for the doll clothes. The Megan's Feathers sashing and simple star cornerstones are for why not? No stitching over the faces is Laura's request & I so agree. Nov 29: Finally took some pictures of the quilt as I received it. Nov 30: Prepped and loaded. I only get to do this quilt once so I am dragging it out...taking my time....getting caught up on other things I have been letting go. Dec 01: Picking thread. Basted. Dec02: I was checking over my IQ plans when I accidentally deleted my entire planning directory containing both of Laura's quilts. So I redrew them & figured out a better execution scheme for this one in the process. I also discovered this quilt has 65 sections to longarm. One thing is for sure: if I never start, I will never finish. Hmmm. I am really enjoying the less intense quilting queue and am taking my own sweet time. Dec 03: Quilting. I can't see the stitching on the outer border. I hope the thread doesn't break or the bobbin run out because I would have a terrible time trying to find where to restart. LOL. The camera with dimmed lights can see far more than I can. Off to a good start. Finished first row of dolls which means from here on it is just repeats until done. Dec 04: Quilting on... Lots of other things going on today. Posted a video of a crosshatch block being quilted. Dec 05: Starting day 3 of quilting while the emails and phone are quiet! That didn't last! All done anyway. Better picture tomorrow, I hope. Dec 06: Last photos posted.
On Cody's blog, Tim says: Thanks for doing this for Cody!! Cody keeps the apartment at Walter Reed very cold so the quilt is much appreciated by everyone :) Later Tim writes: His Mom will be the one using the quilt most likely as Cody stays very hot with the all of the medications he is taking. Because he stays so hot, he keeps the air conditioning very low and freezes his Mom. Tim Cody Hmmm. Sounds to me like Cody's Mom needs her own quilt! Anyone interested? If so, I will longarm it for free. THAT WAS FAST! Laura Mourning has decided to make a quilt for Cody's Mom and already has it planned out. Thanks, Laura! Thus L&L Quilts--totally unofficial--is born. Laura is also the angel who is going to do the binding on both of these quilts. She too is a 24/7 caregiver so she knows what it's like--joys, stress, exhaustion, etc. Quilting keeps her sane or so she says. The quilt is here for Nancy who is Cody's Mom. Laura Mourning pieced this beautiful quilt. She will also bind it and then ship it Nancy. Oct 16: Around this time Laura was shopping and planning the quilt top.
Oct 29: The quilt is here. Nov 01: Quilting day. Using a beautiful and fast meander called Bird Bath. I considered something more elaborate but decided the fabric is elaborate enough. Will use Dream Orient silk batting. Loading. Quilting. Still quilting. Still quilting. LOL. Almost done. Finished. Nov 02: Shipped to Laura to do the binding. Nov 08: Laura finished the binding & thus the quilt. Nov 10: Laura's binding photos (collage here). Nov 17-21: Cody (and Nancy) were in the hospital. Nov 20: Nancy picked up her quilt from the post office. Nov 22: They made it home for Thanksgiving. Nov 27: Received a nice note from Nancy: "It is beautiful and the colors that I love!" Laura Mourning has been working on this in her spare time of which there is very little. I love those blocks for Halloween--really adds to the overall effect. Oct 05: We were talking IQ patterns.
Oct 12: Quilt top arrived. Still talking IQ pattern. "Something swirly." Oct 13: Going with Deb's Swirls so the back can be used when not Halloween. Very Clever. Jan 22, 2013: Laura requested I return her quilt top so she could make modifications. It will be fun to see what she does with it. Just got in a Take 5 Clemson theme quilt that is, simply put, vibrant. Of course, we will use Paw Prints.
Nov 14: Quilted! The final pictures are always a bit rough from the quilt having been rolled up tightly. That will relax very quickly!! The quilt back is absolutely stunning! |
