Sep 13, 2015: I purchased this shop sample from Olde Forest Quilt Shoppe pieced by Paula Ginn. Fabric line is More Hearty Good Wishes by Moda. Quilt top pattern is "Take 5"--5 fabrics of equal weight in the quilt center. Just need backing, batting & time to longarm.
Sep 17: Bought backing today at Greensboro's Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shoppe.
Nov 04: I promised to finish this for someone special. She needs to select her quilting pattern.
Jan 02, 2016: Learned she has a pattern in mind but ...
Feb 22: She is still not selecting a pattern so I can only assume she is passively refusing this gift. So be it.
May 30: My friend & neighbor, Eddunio Gomez, asked for another quilt & this one is perfect. He has one quilt already with these fabrics. This one is for a grandson. He has said several times how nice his quilt is because he doesn't get too hot or too cold--just comfortable. Wish I could take credit but that is thanks to the batting.
Jun 22: Loaded ready to quilt.
Jun 23: Quilted.
Jun 24: Squared the quilt. Made & attached the binding. Clipped ready for handwork.
Jun 26: Binding is finished.
May 18: First contact on this quilt. White thread & W&W batting.
May 28: Quilt arrived. This is Sonya's 2nd quilt to grace the cabin.
Jun 16: Doing some overlays, etc. on the Playground for Sonya to ponder while I prep. Thanks for marking the top of the quilt! Spent the day working out the best pattern & density with Sonya. Changed pattern to Flames.
Jun 17: Prepped back & top. I forgot how many points & intersections there are in a half square triangle quilt. Great job by Sonya getting the top flat & all those edge seams are secured nicely. Quilting.
Jun 18: Quilted.
May 15: First contact on this quilt. Welcome back Michelle.
May 20: Quilt is out for delivery today. Sent Michelle some "stippling" patterns & overlays to consider.
Jun 08: Going with Meander 2 & white thread to match the background & Dream Orient (bamboo & silk) batting.
Jun 14: Prepped & loaded. I want to say that this is a beach quilt with no waves! Excellent border piecing here. The easy part was no points to match.
Jun 15: Quilted.
May 19: This is a twin to On Walden Pond Joan Style 2012. I can see why one sister would want exactly the same quilt another one got! Me 3?
Jun 11: Prepped.
Jun12: Loaded. Quilting. Had to stop when the winged tidbits were attracted to the light. Gosh they bug me!!!
Jun 13: Is June really half gone? Quilted. Shipping tomorrow.
May 9, 2016 - The panels are a birthday present from my daughter making this very special to me. Fabrics are from Moda's Bee Creative collection. I was thinking panels with the dark now border fabric as background/sashing. It was Joanne's idea to use black flange around the panels so they would pop against the honeycombs. Yes! I saw the fabric about a month ago & have been trying to wrap my mind around what to do with it. This is a great example of how I may see something I like but quickly feel overwhelmed. That is when Joanne will come through in a moment with a great idea (& thus make the sale). Pre-washed all fabrics.
May 11: Fussy cut the panels.
May 13: First task is to do a sample flange around one of my extra panels. Want to try 1/4" and 1/8" because there is only 1/4" between seam and panel. I also want to see if I can figure a way to make the flange press out toward the sashing. The only thing that worked is a 1/4" border around the panels made from 3/4" strips. That is done.
May 14: Horizontal sashing is done. Took a while to figure out the best direction to press the seams including a lot of do over.
May 15: Finished sashing leaving just the borders.
May 16: I am determined to finish this quilt today. I have cut the outer border & black 1" strips to make it a flange border. (I may also do a flange binding but by hand, not by machine.) Considering IQ patterns.Quilt top is finished.
May 18: Pieced the backing.
May 20: Drew the honeycomb pattern in IQ. Will turn the quilt sideways to get the pattern right
Jan 15, 2017: Patricia, who said her favorite color is black, chose this quilt because of it's positive message. Can't wait to finish it for her.
Mar 09: Loading. Hoping someone can have Patricia call me about her batting.
Mar 11: Quilting. Decided to use Warm & Plush. The flange border was NOT a good idea for longarming. Wish I had used another 1/4" border. The flange & the hopper foot are not compatible unless I wanted to quilt around the flange which I do not. I am holding down the flange at every point the longarm crosses it. Live & learn -- one day I will have learned it all...NOT.
Mar 12: Quilted. Made & attached the binding. Only hand work left to do.
Mar 24: Binding is finished.
Mar 25: Quilt is delivered.
May 06: Quilt, pieced by Joan Taylor, is here. Loaded ready to quilt.
May 07: Quilted. Photogenic little quilt.
May 08: Forgot to take the photo I wanted before packing up the quilt. Still I have created some collages that are in places kludgy trying to give a fair representation of the quilt for the gallery.
