Aug 25, 2016: Barbara stopped in today to start planning her quilt as she finishes it for longarming. Forgot to take a picture but every other block is solid off-white interlaced with blue pieced star blocks. We looked at some possible blocks to put in the off-white blocks. Thinking we will fill in the rest of the quilt top with a panto of similar density to the block she picks. She needs to buy the fabric for her backing & binding.
May 26, 2017: Barbara now has her backing...yes, 9 months later...much better later than never. She left to consider which Hummingbird patterns to use in her quilt.
Oct 19, 2017: Barbara came by with her quilt. We finished our plan. I know I said no more custom but note that we started planning this quilt in August of 2016.
Oct 31: Prepping.
Nov 01: Prepped ready to load. The top needed lots of blue threads trimmed so they don't show under the white.
Nov 02: Loaded ready to quilt. Had to fix the programming. What I had was good enough for Barbara & I to plan but not accurate enough for quilting. It is now. We are using So Fine! 402 Pearl with Bottom Line 655 Off-White (same shade). The So Fine! we are using is a dull finish 50 wt thread that will give Barbara's custom blocks a bit more definition. The white on white should be stunning though quiet.
Sep 7: Barbara came by. She selected Magnifico #2005 Pink Posey thread, Dream Orient batting & Butterfly Garden panto. We also redesigned the backing to show off the panto. I had some pink left from another project that was exactly enough for what we wanted to do with the back (add an 8" pink marble border) plus binding. Forgot to take pictures...oops. Will do when I get this back later.
Sep 28: Met Barbara in Boone to pick up the revised backing.
Oct 04: Finally taking the time to take & post some photos.
Oct 11: Quilted.
Apt 29: First contact by phone. She got my business card from "Sew Original", our local quilt shop.
May 03: Not often I get to post progress photos of the planning/piecing. Thanks, Barbara.
May 12: Ready for quilting ...tomorrow. Will use Bam Meander at 7.5".
May 13: Barbara is here. Those nice border corners left 3 of her 4 borders a bit wavy. We fixed those before loading. How? We pinned each border straight on the work table the way we wanted them, sprayed with a bit of water (non prewashed cotton will shrink ever so slight), a hair dryer then & an iron--voila! Perfectly flat. Needed to do a custom area around a thick pocket so only completed 3 rows of 7. Barbara will return to help finish tomorrow.
May 14: Quilted.
Jul 03, 2016: Barbara throws an incredible Fourth of July picnic for family, neighbors & friends. This year I was able to go. I met Adam, the grandson for whom this quilt was made. It was very nice to meet him & hear his excitement over his quilt that covers his bed at Yale.
