Nov 28: Just got in this quilt in from Sara Serio. Will post pics later today.
Dec 09: Today I will be doing EQ7 quilt renditions & IQ pattern overlays to help Sara decide the density. Dec 10: Decided on Magnifico #2003 Snowflake. Don't have enough so ordered more. Dec 12: Thread is here. Dec 22: Prepped ready to load. Dec 23: Loaded. Quilting. Trimming colored threads as I go so they don't show through looking like ugly varicose veins. This is no one's neglect--just the nature of the beast. I do it on all white background quilts. Quilted.

Nov 27: Just got in this beautiful large quilt from Sara Serio. Will post pictures later today.
Dec 09: Today I will be doing EQ7 quilt renditions & IQ pattern overlays to help Sara decide the density. Dec 10: Decided on Magnifico #2003 Snowflake. Don't have enough for even one quilt so ordered more. Will wind bobbins in the meantime. Dec 12: Thread is here. Dec 18: Prepping. Pressed & ready to load. Dec 19: Loaded & ready to quilt. Quilting. Dec 20: Nearing the end. This quilt is taking awhile primarily because I have been taking my time & also goofing off a lot. Another reason is because the pattern is just over 10" high with a sizable nesting distance. I am having to roll the quilt every 7 inches or so to fit in the next row. It only takes a few minutes to quilt each row but each roll of the quilt takes about 15 minutes by the time I unclamp it, roll it, smooth out the batting & the quilt, re-clamp the sides & baste them & finally realign the computer with the new quilt position. Working with this quilt, I realize more & more how complex the piecing was including but not limited to points along those white borders. In fact there are complex points everywhere. The way the colors are placed so that each fabric works so well with the colors in the fabric next to it--that takes time & skill. Overall, beautifully done, Sara! Quilted. This quilt makes for some vary interesting photos. I've had fun with them. I'll try for some bed shots tomorrow for the quilt gallery. Fear not. The puckers are actually only wrinkles from where the quilt was rolled. Dec 21: Final pictures. Nov 21: Paula tells me this mystery quilt project was an 8 month adventure at Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shoppe. Moda Atelier fabric. Zephyr IQ pattern. BottomLine Cream thread. Paula's batting.
Dec 07: Posted first pics. I really like the reverse "POP" on this quilt. Prepped & loaded. Dec 08: Quilted. Nov 19: First contact & when I fell in love with this little quilt. Just too cute.
Nov 20: I hear the whole fam-damily has been putting their heads together to select a pattern, thread & density. I just keep tossing out ideas & waiting for the feedback. Nov 21: Foxes have arrived just after I finished a quilt rendition & some overlays. Nov 22: We have a final plan. Will use Warm & White batting with King Tut #980 Riverbank thread. The backing is the same fabric as the white (actually light grey) on the foxes' faces. Dec 03: Prepped. Loaded. Need to wind bobbins & baste. Will quilt tomorrow. Dec 04: Bobbins are ready. Basting and tension testing are done. Quilting. Nov 20: Patricia came by with her quilt. She surprised me asking for custom but I agreed to do it. In just a few minutes, we selected thread & a complex custom pattern layout with 2 borders. I spent the rest of the day drawing up our ideas in IQ. Offering a couple of ideas for how to do the outer border.
Nov 22: Drew the 2nd of the border ideas in IQ. Ideally, in theory, the density of all the patterns should be similar. That won't be the case here. How close we choose to come is Patricia's call. Nov 29: Prepping & still toying with the design. First, I modified the Bird Bath panto to have only one bird and a smooth continuous panto. I finally noticed this quilt has corner blocks so I made a couple of blocks for these. One is just a single bird taken from the Bird Bath panto, the 2nd is the spiral taken from the center of the flower & the 3rd is a bird inside the spiral. Prepped including two sets of bobbins. Nov 30: Loaded. Quilting. It has taken me much too long to do the top borders. I am finally move down to the stars. Dec 02: (Was out of town 12/01) Finished the center and bottom borders. Went back up and took out the top border & corners--the tension was just a bit too loose. Now that the bottom borders are done, I don't have to change thread color or brand again so tension is all set. Once those are done, I still need to turn the quilt and reload to do the side borders. One side border is very friendly (wavy/too much fabric for the space) so I have to figure how to deal with that too. And I'm tired. Better for all if I finish in the morning. Dec 03: Re-did the top borders. Unloaded. Side borders & thus the quilt is done. Nov 16: Quilt is here. This one is for a very special lady named Anna. Warm & Plush batting.
Nov 17: Dorothy reminded me she wants to use the Christian Sketches by Ellen Munnich again. Nov 22: EQ7 rendition & overlays leading to our plan. Magnifico #2173 Sandy Brown thread. Nov 25: Started prepping. Nov 26: Loaded. Quilting. Nov 27: Quilted. Nov 09: Kit wants to swap this in the queue with Bloom & Bliss. No problem. Panto choice is Zephyr. Thread peach or beige. Loose quilting.
Nov 12: Quilt arrived. Nov 13: Quilted. More pictures in the morning. Aug 30: First contact by email. Sent magazine picture of Fons & Porter's Focus On Fun quilt. Selected Bam Meander with white thread to match background.
Sep 25: I followed up with Cindy. Family death, etc. Nov 05: Received the quilt. If I am not mistaken, all the colored fabrics including the backing are grunges. Nov 20: Cut the Dream Orient batting. Using white thread. Nov 22: I planned to do this quilt today but stopped to post some overlays on the PLAYGROUND. Cindy got in touch but I need to be sure just how loosely she wants this quilted when we get a chance to talk. Nov 23: We have a plan. Nov 24: Quilted. Nov 06: Sandy & her daughter, Deann, called me recently and wanted to drop by with Sandy's quilt. We agreed on Wednesday ( 2 days ago). Being quite ill since Saturday, that morning I thinking only about getting to the doctor's office. I completely forgot about Sandy who was driving the 2 hours from north of Winston-Salem to knock on an unanswered door. Just talked to Sandy and promised to put her quilt in the queue as if I had received her quilt on Wednesday. In time we will work out how to get it here--either another trip up or me a drive down or good ole USPS.
Nov 11: Sandy brought her quilt today. She did not piece this herself. It was pieced by her now deceased aunt who was in her 90's when she made it. The quilt has special meaning for Sandy & she plans to give it as a gift. She realizes that this super wavy quilt will have lots of puckers but I will do my best with it. Deb's Swirls 2 with Fantastico #5002 Marble thread. Prepped & loading. Nov 12: Quilted. |
