Dec 14: Just as I was about to settle in for a nap, I got a call. I need the binding done on a quilt -- don't know how & don't have time -- ....... for Christmas. Ohhhh? We agreed to meet at the local quilt shop so Karyn could pick out a binding & she wouldn't have to drive all the way out here. Besides I had essential errands to run. Delightful woman that Karyn. With the help of the staff including Patricia @ Sew Original who referred me, we actually found quite a few options. Knowing her son, Karyn knew what to choose.
Dec 15: Will attach binding and then sit down for a long winter's sew. Didn't have enough binding ... wait I do have a small remnant .... Hand binding. Dec 17: Binding is finished. Dec 08: First contact.

We are sorting through them. Dec 29: One of two quilt tops I received from Grace today. Jan 06: Grace & I have been toying with a number of patterns and narrowed it down today to Cloudy Day by Willow Leaf Studios. Still need to nail down thread & density. Jan 09: Loaded ready to quilt. Jan 06: Grace & I have been toying with a number of patterns and narrowed it down today to Romanesque by Willow Leaf Studios. You just never know what might be going on behind the scenes around here, right Grace? You don't have to answer that. Jan 12: No ... wait. Grace is working on a custom design now. Jan 19: She has submitted a plan that includes 2 pantographs & 2 block designs in various combinations. I will be reproducing it in IQ to see how it will really work. Jan 24: Programmed Grace's design with a few tweaks of my own. Jan 27: We have settled on a plan that features a panto background which mirrors itself along the center horizontal. GRACE help me as I try to longarm this. (I tried to talk Grace into coming down & helping.) Oh well. Feb 08: Loading. Changed from Warm & Plush to Warm & White since the plush is natural, not white. Feb 09: Quilting. Feb 10: Quilted. Too tired to deal with pictures & shipping just now. Plan to ship tomorrow. Okay...1 picture. This quilt uses fabrics from several sources & showcases Joan's skill at using even small bits of fabric to make something beautiful ... in her words ... "many lives touching one who has given much." Joan has shared her story on our J&L Quilters site. Enjoy.Dec 12: Joan decided to take advantage of "virtual shipping" this holiday season. The 10th is the day she was ready to ship with expected delivery Dec 12. Jan 05: Quilt top arrived. Jan 06: Prepping. Note that prepping, pattern, thread and density selelctions & loading are all part of the setup process. We've decided on IQ pattern Minaret by Gali Design from Willow Leaf Studio. (Thanks, Grace, for finding this one.) This is not your standard panto. Instead it consists to two separate alternating patterns that must then be manulated to nest nicely. There is a 3rd pattern in the set for the top row which would otherwise stitch as 2 rows. If you don't follow all that, just leave it to me. Jan 07: Quilting. Jan 08: Quilted. Han 09: More pictures. |
