Oct 12: First contact.
Oct 26: The quilt is here ... and beautiful. Nov 03: Prepped. Loaded. Ready to quilt. Nov 04: Quilted. Nov 05: Delivered to Lorraine in Greensboro at Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shop.
Oct 24: The meeting was fun. After a nice dinner, we received patterns & sewing directions, a numbered tag/label to sew into the back seam and logo fabric for the bottoms of the feet. The entire supply on hand was picked up by the attendees. More will be ordered for those still wanting to make some bears. We do all the sewing but leave little slits for another team to do the stuffing--legs, arms, head & body. I am going to try to longarm some flannel to make the three I have agreed to do. Stay tuned.
Oct 25: I tried the quilting using a variegated thread. It was beautiful but puckered too much. I abandoned the idea as too time consuming. Started cutting out body parts. Using 3 colors of Dit Dot flannel. Oct 26: Cutting. Oct 28: Finished cutting. Started sewing. Having trouble doing the eyes. Hope to farm that task out to someone else. HA! Learned how to free motion on my Janome so the hardest part is done. Oct 29: Made the heads. Nov 06: Made the bodies & legs. Nov 07: Made the arms. Got the bears into 1 piece each. Whew! Three rare bears are ready to ship for someone else to stuff. Oct 15: The quilt is here. I have been waiting on this one to see what Joan would do. Among other things, she used every last scrap of this fabric line. Pete is Joan's nephew.
Nov 10: Prepped. Loading. Trying to decide on thread color--going to try Bottom Line #650 Champagne which matches the peachier creamier shades in the quilt. Quilting using my ZZag pattern & Warm & White batting. Nov 11: Loaded ready to quilt. Nov 12: Quilted. Oct 14: Quilt is here. Cindy's sister asked her to make this quilt & chose the fabrics.
Nov 15: I am making thread & pattern decisions this one time per Cindy's request. Nov 16: Prepped. Nov 17: Quilted. Oct 14: Quilt arrived. Will use Dream Orient batting. Received a 2nd quilt featuring strawberries designed by Cindy's Mom.
Nov 13: Cindy has been kind enough to say there was no hurry doing her quilts. Cut the Dream Orient batting for both. This one is now prepped. Loading. Nov 14: Loaded ready to quilt. Nov 15: Quilted. Tara: "This is a gift for my sister who is an electrical engineer
so she might get humor about the pattern which looks a little like an electrical circuit." Oct 14: Quilt is here. Will use Dream Wool batting. Oct 31: Prepping. Programmed IQ. Pleasantly surprised at how this all goes together. Nov 01: Quilted. Nice how the wool batting accents the quilting without obscuring the piecing. Oct 10: I have tried for over 3 years to get an idea of what a friend might want in a quilt. Now I have it: blue (slate) with cream (not grey), floral or geometric or blenders okay, no flannel, no wool. Starting the process.
Oct 11: Found a quilt pattern I love on GourmetQuilter.com & bought the pattern. Glad I did because I did not realize from their picture that the squares alternate between light & dark which works perfectly for me. I have modified it into a 52 x 70 lap quilt. Fabric is ordered. Oct 15: The fabric is here - several charm packs, 1 mini charm pack & yardage for inner border and backing. Yes I was going for free shipping so I bought a bit more than I need. Bet Joan can use some of the leftovers in her veterans quilts. Oct 18: Started piecing. The quilt is 9-patch blocks alternating between lights & darks. Oct 19: Completed the layout plan. Oct 24: Top center completed. Opted for a simpler single border. Quilt top is finished. Backing is pieced. Ready to quilt. Oct 25: Considering 2 patterns. Loading. Going with the wedding vine--gently flowing with the ups and down of a happy life! Using Dream Orient batting with Bottom Line Cream on top & Silver in the bobbin. Oct 26: Quilted. Oct 29: Squared. Binding attached. Clip basted. Started doing hand work. Oct 31: Finished the binding. Will hand deliver today. |
