On Cody's blog, Tim says: Thanks for doing this for Cody!! Cody keeps the apartment at Walter Reed very cold so the quilt is much appreciated by everyone :) Later Tim writes: His Mom will be the one using the quilt most likely as Cody stays very hot with the all of the medications he is taking. Because he stays so hot, he keeps the air conditioning very low and freezes his Mom. Tim Cody Hmmm. Sounds to me like Cody's Mom needs her own quilt! Anyone interested? If so, I will longarm it for free. THAT WAS FAST! Laura Mourning has decided to make a quilt for Cody's Mom and already has it planned out. Thanks, Laura! Thus L&L Quilts--totally unofficial--is born. Laura is also the angel who is going to do the binding on both of these quilts. She too is a 24/7 caregiver so she knows what it's like--joys, stress, exhaustion, etc. Quilting keeps her sane or so she says. The quilt is here for Nancy who is Cody's Mom. Laura Mourning pieced this beautiful quilt. She will also bind it and then ship it Nancy. Oct 16: Around this time Laura was shopping and planning the quilt top.
Oct 29: The quilt is here. Nov 01: Quilting day. Using a beautiful and fast meander called Bird Bath. I considered something more elaborate but decided the fabric is elaborate enough. Will use Dream Orient silk batting. Loading. Quilting. Still quilting. Still quilting. LOL. Almost done. Finished. Nov 02: Shipped to Laura to do the binding. Nov 08: Laura finished the binding & thus the quilt. Nov 10: Laura's binding photos (collage here). Nov 17-21: Cody (and Nancy) were in the hospital. Nov 20: Nancy picked up her quilt from the post office. Nov 22: They made it home for Thanksgiving. Nov 27: Received a nice note from Nancy: "It is beautiful and the colors that I love!"

talke to Codys Mother this morning. She has been following your blog Linda. She was really excited about the quilt. She said she hadn't got intouch with us because all of Codys medical concerns are through the VA. and she has had to go to Wash. DC to get alot of paper work finished for him and I can't imagine how that must have been. Anyway...there are a couple of other N.C. soldiers up there that she is gonna email me about. So anyone else interested in making a lap quilt for one....I'll send a bandanna to you or you may want to do a quilt without one. Oh...and Linda, she has been reading the messages you are blogging to Cody too. She was very kind and greatful for you support.

Thank you. Nancy commented on Cody's quilt. It's all your fault, you know. LOL

I was ready to volunteer this quilt, but I'm sure it's in good hands. I must admit, this is the first blog I have ever read! I love the way you handle your quilts and keep the work in progress on your blog. I am a "newbie" to the quilting world, but my Mentor says I am gifted. If another quilt is needed for someone I would be blessed to make one. I'm also looking for Vets who would like to incorporate some/all of their uniforms to be incorporated into the quilt. Since I have become disabled quilting has become my passion. My brother has just been diagnosed with colon cancer. My sister-in-law calls it "a journey to healing". So I have found a pattern which looks like alot of pathways which I am making for him to take to treatments, etc. Those places are always so cold. I will probably send it to you for quilting. I am so impressed with your website and Blog. Where is Ashe County? My brother lives in Macon County, Franklin, NC. I lived there for 18 years, but moved to So. Ga. 2 yrs ago. My our Lord continue to bless you, your family and your work. You now have an Icon on my home page.

There are so very many wounded warriors in our midst. Perhaps you know one yourself. I have forwarded your interest to Celia, the source of our bandanas. Also check out: http://www.operationbandanas.org/ .

I finished the binding last night. Once I got started, I just had to finish it. This quilt is lightweight, and the silk batting is surprisingly warm. Let's just say I was happy to be working on it last night when the temps started dropping! Good choice!
