Dec 31: Quilt top is here. This makes Tara's 8th quilt to grace the cabin. White thread, cotton batting & Billowy - all set.
Jan 13: Loaded ready to quilt. Jan 14: Quilted. Tara: "This is a gift for my sister who is an electrical engineer
so she might get humor about the pattern which looks a little like an electrical circuit." Oct 14: Quilt is here. Will use Dream Wool batting. Oct 31: Prepping. Programmed IQ. Pleasantly surprised at how this all goes together. Nov 01: Quilted. Nice how the wool batting accents the quilting without obscuring the piecing. Mar 14: First Contact. Pattern is Hoops 3" in diameter, Quilters dream cotton batting, Magnifico Shiver #2164.
Mar 21: The quilt is here. Such lush reds indeed. Apr 04: Tara back from vacation. Apr 05: Tara is reassessing the size she wants for the basketballs. 3" is quite dense but not necessarily too dense for this quilt. The big O for Ohio is want really counts on this quilt as it is the standard design for Ohio State paraphernalia. Apr 07: Loaded the playground with information to help Tara decide on her density. Going ahead with prepping until she can get back to me. Prepped. Need to wind bobbins when I know how many. Loading. Talked through the thread options & density options & how they would impact this quilt. So far, we have all agreed on 7.5" rows (3.25" balls). Since the quilting will make for break this quilt, I agreed to do thread tests in the morning using Magnifico & Bottom Line, Silver & Gray. Apr 08: Tests are done. I know what I would use but let's see what Tara & her teenage son choose. Decided on least contrast, best blend--Bottom Line Gray. And yes, that was my choice too. Just need to load the top & start quilting. Quilting. On last row. ... Went out to dinner around 6 PM without a top coat. Now at 10:45, it is snowing like crazy with serious winds. I want to ship tomorrow but the mail carriers may not be able to get up here. Quilted. Oct 04: First Contact. Immediately selected Rabbit Rampage panto & white thread to match. Tara had enough fabric to make a second slight smaller quilt. I suggested she sew the backs together & I would quilt both as one.
Oct 13: Quilts arrived. Oct 28: Prepping. Oct 29: Loaded. Quilting. Oct 30: Quilted. Shipping today. Feb 22: First contact on this quilt.
Mar 04: Quilt arrived. Using African Samba pattern. Apr 08: Prepped & ready to load. Quilting. Apr 09: Quilted. Nov 18: First contact about this quilt.
Nov 22: Wool batting. Still considering thread and pattern options. Nov 28: Quilt arrived. Dec 10: Finally took a picture when double checking how much batting I need. Dec 12: Tara & I have been trying to find the best thread for awhile. So many shades in the quilt and so many threads that work make it very difficult for both of us. Dec 13: Tara will send fabric samples to test to narrow down her 2 choices at this point--Art Studio #308 Lilac OR Magnifico #2120 Lilac Frost. This is the best way to see ahead of time how it will look. PS: Always a good idea to send fabric samples if you want the best thread and tension match for your quilt. Dec 18: Fabric samples are here. Dec 27: Final thread samples. Final thread choice: Magnifico #2120 Lilac Frost. Dec 29: Prepped, loaded. Quilting. Quilted. Dec 30: Final pics. "Wavy Blue" is Tara's description. Fascinating quilt with all those hues. I like it & its aquatic feel.. Feb 12: Just found out Tara's quilt has been in my mailbox since Monday. The last time I went out was Sunday ahead of the predicted storm. Half mile away with snow piling up outside, it will be awhile before I can retrieve it.
Feb 18: Finally retrieved the quilt from the mailbox. This beautiful quilt top is none the worst for spending a week stuffed into my mailbox. (Hint: boxes get delivered to my door.) Feb 24: Will use Meandering Loops Feb 26: with King Tut #967 Basket on top & Bottom Line #653 Beach on back. Feb 27: Programmed layout. Mar 4: Prepped & loading. Switching to cotton batting. Mar 05: Loaded, basted & quilting. Quilted. Mar 06: Final pictures. Shipped. |
