Sep 09: It's Here. I am showing you Michelle's preview pictures until I get a chance to work on this, hopefully tomorrow or Sunday. Need the usual specs: thread, pattern & density.
Sep 13: Michelle will embellish with embroidery when she gets this back so I am only going to quilt the background. She is looking for a pattern. Sep 14: I am too ... all 26 sites I have earmarked. Looking for a background filler. Thread is Light Blue (#610) w/Silver bobbins. Sep 15: Michelle selects Puppy Paws. Started working on the Intelliquilter program for this project. Sep 16: Hmmm. Finally decided to get the wall hanging out and do some measurements. Didn't realize the faces take up a huge amount of the quilt leaving only a 2" or so border to be longarmed. This won't work unless a very floppy loose faces are what is wanted here. Have suggested that my partner do a bit of playing too. Too many ideas to detail here or by email. Time to get our heads together & talk this through. Sep 17: Posted lots of densities spelled out. What we carve out, what we quilt at what density--these are the unanswered questions. Been working on/thinking about this little 23 x 46 project for a week now. Can't go any further. Sep 19: We have a plan. Oct 02: After a week of intense planning, I needed to back away from these little guys for a while. Now I'm ready. Prepped. Loaded. Quilting. Finished 2 of the 3 dogs. Will finish in the morning. Oct 03: Quilted.

May 15: First contact on this quilt. Welcome back Michelle.
May 20: Quilt is out for delivery today. Sent Michelle some "stippling" patterns & overlays to consider. Jun 08: Going with Meander 2 & white thread to match the background & Dream Orient (bamboo & silk) batting. Jun 14: Prepped & loaded. I want to say that this is a beach quilt with no waves! Excellent border piecing here. The easy part was no points to match. Jun 15: Quilted. Per Michelle: This quilt is composed mostly of Dan Stiles' "Marine" fabrics by Birch, along with some Kona solids. The pattern is from Elizabeth Hartman's book "The Practical Guide to Patchwork". Sure puts me in the mood for a coastal adventure. Alas, if only all quilts were so perfectly pieced!! June 29: Loading...loaded...basted.
June 30: Quilted. Per Michelle:The pinwheels is a pattern I created using this special Lazy Girl Designs ruler. The fabrics for the pinwheels are Pezzy by American Jane for Moda. I just LOVE Sandy Klop's fabrics. The solids are Kona cottons. I will be binding the quilt with black and white striped binding to add more "pop". This small quilt has Michelle's characteristic touch on the back, this time another pinwheel. July 01: Prepped...loaded...quilting...quilted.
I just got in two quilt tops today from Michelle Binder (Kentucky). She has already selected her quilting patterns as we got acquainted on the phone Sunday evening. These are going to be FUN!! Michelle has shared this: "The pattern is by an Australian Designer, Kate Conklin. The fabrics are a limited release from Laurie Wisbrun, who designs for Robert Kaufman. Donkeys quilt 10/06: Loaded 10/07: Quilted. Notice the two asses, I mean donkeys, on the back!! LOL French Country fabrics
We will be using a Dream Orient bamboo & silk blend batting I ordered and received faster than the quilt top! Per Michelle, "Pattern is from Carolina Patchworks and fabrics are all American Jane (Sandy Klop) for Moda. Sandy's fabrics are always so cheerful." 10/07: Programmed. 10/09: Loaded & basted. 10/10: Quilted! |
