Fascinating Documentary: How Bali Batiks are Made Aug 02, 2019: The fabric for the Ivory Dogwood quilts is here. I'll be making a rather large quilt using custom blocks but arranged like a whole cloth pattern. The borders will be traditional custom. Aug 03: The print is so much larger than I expected that I am trying to get a feel for how the quilting might look. First task--pre-wash...tomorrow. May take several tomorrows ... lol Aug 04: The lights are washed & ready to cut. Aug 05: The darks are washed, not dried or pressed. Aug 06: Working on partly custom, mostly whole cloth layout. It will be awhile before a final plan emerges. Ideas are floating out there on the "dot" screen; if you know what that is, feel free to take a peek. I've been having an unusual number of "unforeseen circumstances", all good, but hard to get anything I planned done. Good thing too. Just learned my quilt recipient is enduring "unforeseen circumstances" too. So this is on hold. Aug 09: The last few days, I finished the washing, drying, pressing & folding all the fabrics--a good pause point. I have decided we all need to leave this alone for a while, me too. The parameters & options & decisions & life are conflicting--solve one question, three pop up in its place. There is no urgency here. Sep 09: Took some time to revisit the custom designs. Oct 15: Started piecing. The center needs to pieced to be large enough. After attaching the side piece, I decided to split it with a smaller section on each side of the center. Oct 16: Too sick to work. Oct 17: Quilt top is done. Backing is ready. Will load tomorrow. Oct 19: Loaded ready to quilt the top two borders. Oct 20: Quilting. Did top two borders & 5 rows before I discovered the serious tensions issues. I know to check like crazy when starting a new quilt but just didn't check this one. Didn't photograph any more because the quilting just doesn't show--only when lights are dimmed. Oct 22: Starting over. Too much to take out. Ordered new fabric. Oct 25: New fabric is here. Oct 29: Pre-washing is done. Oct 31: Quilt top is pieced ready to load. I am abandoning custom quilting & have modified Donna Kleinke's dogwood pantograph slightly. I have sized the pantograph to fit nicely on the borders. Nov 01: Loaded. Nov 02: Quilting. Quilted. Nov 03: Binding is attached & ready for handwork. Nov 05: Finished 3 of 4 sides. Best time ever. Good thing since I need to reload & fix an area that didn't get quilted. Plan to deliver Thursday afternoon. Nov 06: Finished.
