Jun 08: Marty & I have been talking about a quilt for his mom every since I finished his last year. Somewhere along the line I learned that purple is the theme. Marty's Mom has been dealing with serious family issues & just has not had the time to be involved in the planning stage. Today, Marty & I agreed that we need to go ahead and plan a quilt and let it be a surprise. Marty's aunt (Mom's sister) has cancer. The plan is to give the quilt to her (purple is her favorite color) knowing that one day it will pass on to Mom. So I have put together some possibilities for Marty to consider.
Jun 09: Ordered fabric for the quilt above. Things have changed dramatically since Marty & I started this project just 2 days ago. In the last 24 hours, the aunt/sister has gone from serious to only days. I didn't know this when I placed my orders. Whatever else this quilt may be, it is a prayer for all these dear people.
Jun 10: Finished all the ordering. I found the bits and pieces from 5, no 6 vendors.
Jun 15: Pre-washed 4 of 5 fabrics.
Jun 16: Started cutting & piecing. Prewashed last fabric that came today. Got 4.5 borders done, 2.5 to go.
Jun 17: Piecing finished. Marty came by to brainstorm backings. I learned his aunt died about a week ago. He decided on the dark teal from the Mystic Garden line, Donna Kleinke's Leaves & Ribbons for the IQ pattern and Bottom Line Ivory thread. Fabric is ordered & so we wait.
Jun 21: Backing is here.
Jun 22: Prewashed the backing. Cut, pinned, ready to sew the seam.
Jun 23: Ordered batting. Binding is ready. Backing is ready. Started loading the backing but didn't get very far. I did notice the backing fabric is directional. I guess if one wants the back side up, the quilt can be turned 90 degrees.
Jun 24: Batting is here in only 1 day.
Jun 28: Loading.
Jun 29: Quilting.
Jun 30: Quilted.
Jul 01: Binding is attached & clipped ready for hand work.
Jul 04: Binding is finished & thus the quilt is finished.
